Oh my sweetums, I am jumping up and down. Indeed I AM. Because I have discovered a new art tool. New to me. Before I tell you about it, you have to make a promise, a solemn pinky swear PROMISE that you will exercise discretion with what I am about to tell you.
This is SO COOL but there is a potential for abuse over-enthusiasm. And weight gain.
I kid you not. Go to the grocery store. To the frozen food section. Skip right past the vegetables and frozen pizzas (we’ll cover those in another post) and head straight to the ice cream. Now dive head first into the Haagen Dazs…not the normal small containers, the ones that serve 800 four but you can eat all by yourself if there’s a good movie on the tube and you are not being mindful.
Mindful eating is the topic of another post coming soon. Seriously, it is.
What you’re looking for here are the teensy-weensey little biddy almost microscopic single serving containers. The ones you probably pass by because what’s the point of buying so little ice cream? Really, what is the point? Besides portion control, that is.
Well, you’re about to learn there is a point. So pick out your favorite flavor. Pay for it. Oh yes, do pay. And then open it up. And look what’s hiding right under the lid…
A paint scraper! A palette knife! A…a… thing you can use for sure in your studio to move paint around. Dip into glazes. Make marks. Scratch surfaces…. I am positively swooning at the possibilities. I mean, this ranks right up there with FOAM BRUSHES fro convenience. Price. Versatility.
Foam brushes? Oh, big. happy. sigh. But you can’t eat them.
And Studio Grande-in-progress has HALF a roof. Just half. The other side being nekked plywood. The skylights are in, all four of them. But Mr. Spouse wasn’t sure of the flashing, the stuff that makes them water-tight. With the storm door now open and rain/snow predicted all this week and beyond, he tarpped ’em, Danno. Just to be safe.
The side that has the roof, you know, shingles and stuff, did not leak at all in last night’s rain. That side has been the major leaker in the past so we are very pleased.
But the nekked side has two tarps. Because it leaks. This is the view from the back door of our house.
And this is the hobbit door. It will be painted red. And the bungee cord will be replaced with a real door knob.
There are other things to be done inside, less dramatic as far as photos go but enough to keep us busy since all outside work is on hold until the weather clears. Which could be weeks.
I say us but I really mean Mr. Spouse. It’s my studio but his project.
Now get up. Do some jumping jacks. Go forward into the day. And tonight when the sun is still up, well at least for another hour, raise a toast, have some chocolate and ENJOY!
Lots of time in the studio today. Made some progress on a couple layered canvases. These are works-in-progress, far from finished but I thought you might like to see the progression of one of them.
The horse was the first thing to pop out in this piece and then all inspiration s.t.o.p.p.e.d. So I put it away for awhile. I wasn’t thrilled with the lack of movement in Mr. Pony. And confused by my need to put a face in there. My literal mind was going umm…this doesn’t work.
And then I looked at it today and saw a sleeper. A dreamer…But there was one problem. A BIG one. Ponies don’t stand around in dreams. They RUN. And they run FAST.
So I was BOLD. And BRUTAL. I dispatched Mr. Pony. Just like that. Took my brush and cut him into three ponies. Action. Energy. Ponies worth dreaming about. And then I claimed another from the area above her head. Because I could.
Got a ways to go with this but if life doesn’t get too much in the way I might finish her this weekend. We have a solid week of winter weather rolling in beginning Sunday. YAY! That’s great. We need it.
But it also means I’ve got to spend some hours down in the barn, spoiling my real life ponies with fluffy dry beds. And when the storm comes, I will dream easy, knowing that they are dry and warm.
The sun DID NOT go down. Well, it did. But not until 6:30. That means even though I worked late today, even though I stopped and picked up dinner, even though I was bone tired by the time I drove home and fed the ponies at 6…it was STILL DAYLIGHT!
Imagine that…
The winter-that-never-happened, except for the dark and dreary part, is giving way to spring. Is giving way to longer days. Even longer days after this weekend when the time change happens. OMG! I am positively GIDDY with anticipation!
Positively blissed out by that big old ball of gas in the sky.
