Day 13, 30 Paintings in 30 Days.
Women in Red # 13 ©2014 Susan Lobb Porter
Women in Red # 13. Or maybe I should say Women in wee bit o’red. Perhaps they’re dreaming of summer. What do you think?
One of my FB friends (shout out to you, Miss Amie!) has shared her fascination of the stories behind these images, the relationships between the players. With the exception of Women in Red # 11, none of these paintings were created with a backstory in my mind.
My conscious mind. Subconscious, (shrug) who knows?
So I’ve got an idea. If any of these images bring up an emotion or a story in your mind, like ummm…these are a couple of Russian ladies about to take a mid-winter dip in the River Volga, share your story in the comments below. I’d love to hear what y’all have to say. That’s a Yankee y’all, by the way.
And maybe someday I’ll share what motivated me to paint this.
XO sweetums. See you tomorrow!

Twelve days. It’s been twelve days since I began the 30 Paintings in 30 Days challenge. And I’m still painting Women in Red. On the iPad. Imagine that!

I’m starting to be more comfortable with Procreate. Getting used to the little quirks and crashes. I may or may not explore other apps during this time, just because of learning curves. But I’m open to suggestions and if you have any, please share in the comments below.
See you tomorrow!

30 Paintings 30 Days, Day 10
Sometimes I’ll spend hours writing a blog post. I’ll work over that sucker till I’m sweating cyber blood, pulling cyber teeth, mixing metaphors and cliches like there’s no tomorrow.
I do it in the name of literary perfection. And whenever I write something like that, it sucks.
Happens with art too, like that painting over there (arrow pointing RIGHT and UP)
But then at the last minute, before I hit the publish button, I’ll open a new draft and write what I meant to say with a whole ‘nother voice. With MY voice. The words are fresh and come easy-peasy with no inner critic tripping up da muse.
Happens with art too, like this painting (arrow pointing straight DOWN)

I LOVE it when that happens.
Be back tomorrow with another painting. Meanwhile, I love to hearing what you have to say in the comments below.

30 Paintings 30 Days # 9
Women in Red # 9 © 2014 Susan Lobb Porter
I made a comment somewhere on Facebook that this 30 Paintings in 30 Days is a triple challenge for me. The first is the most obvious, painting every day.
The second challenge for me is the figurative nature of the images I’ve chosen to paint. Holy crap, I’m painting PEOPLE every day. I’m not new to figures by any means but for the most part I haven’t done them in a long time.
The third challenge for me is I’m doing everything on my iPad. I figured having to use the digital art programs would make me more familiar with them. But it’s not like painting on canvas or paper and the feel of the digital tools is nothing like holding a paint stick or brush in hand. There’s a learning curve above and beyond the image making.
The fourth challenge–oh, I said there were three, did I? Liar liar pants on fire, silly me. Four. There are four things I set myself up for. And the fourth one is letting go, having fun and realizing these paintings are at best studies for potential REAL paintings someday down the road. Some of them stand alone as nice images and will be available as prints. Some of them already are (check out the link on the sidebar).
And the fifth challenge–because yes, there ARE five, is writing a blog post every day. I didn’t think I would do this, the writing part. I figured I’d just slap a picture up and be done with it. But that doesn’t appear to be the case. I just likes to talk.
So talk back to me. Say something in the comments below. That would make me so happy I might have to give you a pony.

And so it continues. She-of-the-short-attention-span is foregoing shiny distractions (Oh, look, a squirrel!) and is pulling theses images out of her iPad every day.
And the fact that I’m talking about myself in the third person means it’s time to go to bed.
Good night, sweetums. Or good morning. Whatever time it is when you’re reading this. I’ll be back tomorrow with # 9. I hope you’ll join me.
