Shadow.
Shadows. Mystery of light. My airy doppleganger.
Moi, captured against the wall of the hay shed. Rough wood in the glare of a single compact fluorescent bulb.
Moi again. Striking the cameo pose against the late afternoon sun.
I am becoming emboldened by these shadow portraits, by these images of me-not-me. I’ll be sharing more with you from time to time.
Technical info: These were created on my iphone 4s while enrolled in Catherine Just‘s online class, In Plain Sight. Do yourself a favor, check out her classes. It’s not photography, it’s transformation.
Your talent and creativity with that ‘little rectangle’ is inspiring. Really like the shadow portrait with trees. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Thank you, Bonnie. The shadow series has been a lot of fun.
I love the idea…..just even the IDEA,
of photographing your shadow.
You have the coolest creative cookies:)
thanks for the always stir,
Jennifer

Shadow never has a bad hair day, Jennifer! 🙂
Oh these are wonderful Susan. Airy doppelganger is a brilliant expression. This summer I began a daily selfie project and it’s so interesting how shadow pops in to be explored.

I think these are the prelude to the daily selfie project, Deborah. And yet I enjoy the mystery of the shadow. Maybe a daily selfie shadow series…
I agree with Deborah. I am intriqued with the term “airy doppelganger” and may try to incorporate it into a dinner conversation!!
Now, I’m wishing our day was sunny so I could try some shadow portrait or two.

It was a phrase I picked up out of my head, Ruth. Then I checked it on wikipedia. The original definition of doppleganger is a bit sinister but the modern context avoids that, just means a double. So be sure to use it in the modern context 🙂
What a wonderful concept – so simple, yet so unique!!!! The first one is a wonderful abstract – it would be a nice painting too – so mysterious. Glad I checked these out!
Vickie, you can see more of the shadow series in an earlier post. http://www.oolalatheartylife.com/7023/shadows-and-reflections/
I love your images. I feel like they capture your essence. I took In Plain Sight too and loved it. It was a life-changing experience in how I perceive things in my life.

I love how you feel that they’ve captured my essence, Michelle. I think that too and I’m not sure why that is.
When I teach classes I hope my students can say it’s a life changing experience!

Hi Susan,
This is really cool. I have never thought of taking photos of my shadow. How fun is that? Love the orange one.

Hi Amy! I’ve become addicted to shadow photos lately. So much fun. Try it!

What a clever idea! I wonder how our shadow compares to our silhouette? Maybe more forgiving?
Naomi recently posted..Such a yellow: healing through art
Shadows are way more forgiving, Naomi. I think that’s why I like them. 🙂

When I initially commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I
get four emails with the same comment. Is there any way you
can remove people from that service? Appreciate it!

This is the perfect web site for anyone who wants to find
out about this topic. You understand a whole lot its almost hard to argue
with you (not that I really would want to…HaHa).
You definitely put a brand new spin on a subject that has been discussed for
many years. Excellent stuff, just great!

Have you ever considered about including a little bit more than just your articles?
I mean, what you say is fundamental and everything. But think about if you added some great pictures or video clips
to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with pics and clips, this
blog could certainly be one of the most beneficial in its niche.
Good blog!
