Oh my Sweetums…I know you’re waiting eagerly to see the photos of the new studio that I promised would be here today.
But they’re not.
It’s for your own good. Really. I would hate for you to pass out from the shock of it. Or worse yet, gag on your coffee and spit it all over the keyboard. Oh no, can’t have that now, can we?
So you’ll have to trust me. Right now the new! improved! Studio Grande is being moved into. Which means it’s a mess. Chaos. Boxes of art supplies stacked willy nilly, like something from an episode of Hoarders.
But I do have something to show you. Something SO COOL, so ESSENTIAL for an art studio I don’t know how I ever got along without it.
I was in IKEA. In the kitchen area. I don’t get there too often, it’s well over an hour away. But that’s where we bought the studio cabinets. So while Mr. Spouse was doing boring math things with the helper man, I wandered around, within hollerin’ distance in case he needed me.
Wandered into the place where all the kitchen carts are and found THIS!
Like it wants to hang out next to the easel, you know. Standing right there with paints. Brushes. Water. Hooks from the top shelf for things to hang from. Things like towels. Or containers that hold brushes. Three shelves for art supplies. Wheels only on the front. Or is it the back? Whatever. It’s easy to move but won’t roll away.
But it’s the top shelf that’s the kicker. It’s really a drawer. And the top is reversible. Flip it over, line it with shiny paper or glass and you’ve got the perfect palette.
Is this COOL or what?
And the best thing is it was UNDER thirty bucks. Okay, a penny under but UNDER. One whole cent. But still, it’s way cheaper than something like this would be in an art supply store.
And it was easy to assemble. You can read all about it here.
Meanwhile I’m going to keep plugging away at the move. Got a day job and the weather is cookin’, so it’s slower than I thought. But I’ll keep posting photos and maybe, just maybe, I’ll be in and painting by early next week.
Awesome score! You never know, we might like the photo’s of your studio – it’s always nice to see someone else’s disaster area – it makes you feel better about your own. See, I KNOW there’s a can of spray polyurathane in my studio somewhere – if only I could tidy up the mess.
And isn’t a day job frustrating? Gets in the way of doing fun stuff!
sue:)
Spray polyurathane, Sue? I believe I found at least five cans today dating back 20 years. Pays to move…
Found some old acrylic medium with bugs in it. Bugs in acrylic? Part of what’s taking so long, besides the fact it’s in the high 90s and the move is uphill, besides all that, I’m editing what goes in the new studio. Like, only stuff I plan on using. Imagine that…
The rest will be donated, tossed or ritual sacrifice. ; )
That is a cool find! I love IKEA. And I’m doing the same thing in my studio — a GIANT purge. It feels good to just have the things you want to have in your studio! How come we collect all that other stuff??
Hope the temps cool off some for your move.
xxoo
I’m thinking the purge will extend into our living space, Judy. Catching the de-clutter bug…but you’d never know it from looking at things around here, lol
xo
Definitely cool! Enjoying reading about your progress and fun-making!
Thanks, Bonnie. In a few more days it will feel like progress…
The IKEA table is really cool. And, yes, I too can relate to the “clutter” problem. Living in a 5th-wheel trailer and a portable storage shed, I think I’d qualify as the next featured subject for “The Hoarder”! Look for me on tv…LOL 🙂
A fifth wheel and you still find the space to make art? You win the prize, Pat. I’d give it to you if you had the room… 🙂
Susan thanks for sharing! So fun! I am further than 1 hour from IKEA. I will check on-line. I have also been asking my hairdresser is she had any of her old carts hanging around they have some cool storage too.:)
At least you can do the on-line thing, Stephanie. I didn’t think to buy the cups that are made to hang from the side hook while I was there. Now I want them and they’re not available on-line. Guess I’ll have to figure something else out because it’s not worth the gas to get there…unless I happen to be in the area, of course.
Or maybe your hairdresser has some extra carts!
